ART ON CUTTYHUNK
49 BUOYS (Original Oil on Canvas 18” x24”)
Cuttyhunk Island, or the town of Gosnold, is the southernmost end of the Elizabeth Island chain. Living in Fairhaven, Cuttyhunk is just a hop-skip, and jump across Buzzard’s Bay. I am very fortunate to be able to spend a good chunk of my summer on this quaint island. If you have never been, it has in some ways been preserved to a previous time when things were less complicated, and ‘un-plugged’.
I draw much inspiration for my art from this beautiful place.
This past Saturday, Cuttyhunk held their annual fireworks and street fair. The fireworks display is by far, the most magnificent around, and the word is out! Boaters have to arrive on Wednesday to stake their claim to a mooring in the harbor, as the boat slips and rental homes have been sold-out since January.
The street fair is a two-hour event where local Artists and Artisans set up tables of their wares along the sides of the “Main’ dirt street (not so sure that it has an official name. This year, the Cuttyhunk Yacht Club sold the giclée prints of THE GOSNOLD SIX mostly because the painting depicts the kids sailing their boats during the Yacht Club’s sail camp. They sold matching notecards of that piece, as well as, 49 BUOYS.
This was the first time that my artwork was offered for sale to the public, the pieces sold-out very quickly, and that was very cool!
